Rice Cooker

I cannot live without this handy rice cooker. I use it at least once a week to feed my family of 6 (used to be 7, but our oldest daughter is off to college). I inherited this rice cooker when I met my husband. I had a much larger one given to me as a college graduation gift. I have found over the years, that this smaller size is perfect. I never need to cook more than 2 cups of dried rice.

It is so easy to use. You just add the rice, then add water or broth, and push the button down. It will turn from red to yellow when it is done. It’s a set it and forget it perfect rice cooker. I use it to make white rice, brown rice, and even quinoa.

The first time I ever tried to make rice was in college. It was my first time living on my own in an apartment with four of my friends. We were all helping prepare a roommate meal. My job was to make the Rice-A-Roni, just follow the directions on the box. It seemed like a simple task. Well, it ended in the smoke alarm going off and me catching a kitchen towel on fire. After that, I left the cooking to my roommates. I’ve come a long way since that day in college. But, I have never really attempted to make rice in anything other than my rice cooker.
